India's rich political parties

The times of india (used to be a respectable paper) has come out with this bit of news:
Obviously toilet paper of india has not done any research on this.

"Being in power pays. Congress's declared assets of Rs 340 crore for 2007-08, with an opening balance of Rs 271 crore, puts the party way ahead of rival BJP and regional powerhouses like Samajwadi Party, BSP and CPM. Even for the assessed year, BJP lagged Congress by more than Rs 100 crore.  "

Here is the thing the rag could have used had their been really interested in finding what they were publishing:

Cola Communism

"IT’S economic determinism by another name. Seen as a business conglomerate rather than a political party, the CPI(M)’s Kerala unit boasts a Rs 4,000 crore asset base."

This 4000 crore figure is in 2005. Calculate inflation and you have Kerala state unit of 'poor' people's party somewhere close to 10000 crore.

Not bad for a political party...eh.
