9 players to bid for 3G, no new entrants in fray

It was in 2000 that 3G license were sold in Europe. Now in 2010 Indian minister known for corruption is leading towards 3G while some countries have already started deploying 4G networks.

with leaders like A. Raja, India is guaranteed to remain as also-ran in telecom connectivity. Also the auction (in interesting case in game theory) seems to be designed to make maximum moolah for CONs.

Unsurprisingly, telecom ministry is one of the most corrupt in indian government.

"Predictably, the 3G auctions have attracted only existing 2G players -- Aircel, Bharti, Etisalat, Idea, Reliance Telecom, S Tel, Tata Teleservices, Vodafone and Videocon Telecom -- with not a single new entrant, global or Indian, in the list. ..."

"The simultaneous, ascending auction designed by auctioneer N M Rothschild enables bidders to bid from their own computer screen with the value of the highest bid and number of bidders in each round for each circle visible to each player"
